The Great Gatsby.

I am still... incredibly speechless about this movie. I have NEVER seen a movie put together so well. Made so precisely perfect. I am blown away at the acting, the clothing, the setting, the overall filming and so many other aspects of this movie. This is by far the greatest movie ever known to man. I knew it would be good as soon as I found out the Director also directed Moulin Rouge. He has always been known for his fast paced moves and vibrant colors. This movie seriously blew my mind.
Leonardo DeCaprio... perfect. Perfect Jay Gatsby.
Wow... just wow.
Everyone must see this movie.

BATMAN

Batman is my favorite super hero, so of course I need to talk about all of the Batman movies.

The old Batman movies, directed by Tim Burton, are more comical and fantasy-like. It takes on a very colorful and incredibly cheesy version of Batman. My favorite out of the four movies is Batman Returns. I absolutely love the penguin and cat woman. Michelle Phiffer is an incredible actor. She is much better than Halley Berry. Sorry, getting off topic. I think it is a really interesting take on how messed up the penguin is. It's so funny too!

Where as the new Batman trilogy is very dark and serious. But it is so... Detailed, and thorough. They had such a huge budget that they went all out. And it was an amazing product in the end. Bane, in the third movie, gives me chills. His voice, his muscles, his everything is so perfect. If you haven't seen these movies... You are deemed a loser in my book.

Elvira

This movie is hilarious!!! I think I have fallen in love with it.
Elvira is a movie host for a horror channel. She hates her job and quits to move to Las Vegas to start her own show. But the producers call and say they need $50,000 to start the show. She freaks out because she doesn't have that kind of money.
Out of no where her Great Aunt that she has never met dies and has left something for her in the will. She prays and prays that its money. Instead she gets an old creaky house and a poodle. But the house comes along with some surprises, like that she is a decedent  from a Witch and is herself a witch.
It gets super crazy and the effects they used in the old days will make you laugh so hard! Its on Netflix so watch it!

Sinister

Brutal horror movie. BRUTAL. If you're looking for something to make you pee your pants... this would be the movie. The producer of Paranormal Activities and Insidious finally redeemed himself. Everyone knows how much I hate that movie... so I was a bit skeptical before I saw this movie. Man... I was WRONG.
The plot is actually quite genius. This writer and his family, a wife, a boy, and a girl, move into a house that was previously a murder scene. A whole family "hung" themselves on the tree in the back yard, except for the youngest daughter. She disappeared. This writer wants to solve the mystery of her disappearance and murder. As he starts to explore the house he finds old film and a film projector. As he watches these "home made movies," he realizes that what he is watching is the last moments of many different families lives ending. Each of those families that died, is missing a child. and out of the corner of every movie he sees this face. Once you see that face... You will be next.

The L Word

For those of you don't know, I am openly gay. So I think you can assume what this T.V. show is, but I'll tell you anyway. It's about a tight knit group of lesbians and their lives in California. In every single episode there is some sort of drama. Like in the last couple episodes I just watched Tina and Bette, a lesbian couple that have been together for 7 years, try to get pregnant with invetro-fertilization, but after only 12 weeks she has a miscarriage. This causes Tina, the one who was pregnant, to pull away from Bette. Bette then looks for companionship in a carpenter working on the art gallery she owns. She cheats and its this huge fight happens. Then the episode ends.
I stayed up till 5:30 in the morning yesterday to finish the first season because I couldn't stop watching it. I am an addict and I recommend you watch this if you have Netflix. :O

Hansel and Gretel

Terrible movie. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The plot sucks asshole (sorry for the vivid imagery and profanity). Its about two pathetically hot twins named hansel and Gretel. They get kidnapped by the obvious and stupid witch. She is crazy very unoriginal. She has her twin boys, that look like there out of a wrong turn movie, murder and grill people to eat.
It's just stupid. The only reason I would say to watch it is because the gore is very original and believable.

The Walking Dead.

Yes, I know this is not a movie, but I need to tell you how much I LOVE it. This is one of the most violent, sexual, and de-sensitizing shows I have seen on T.V. There have been 3 seasons so far... and I have watched every single episode because it is so good. This T.V. show is about a group of people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic zombie world. They have had to deal with watching family members getting ripped apart alive, a pregnancy that ended in death, a crazy dictator called the Governor who tried to kill them multiple times, and of course the mental illnesses that come along with all of that. It is going to be a hard 6 months until season 4 starts...
Season one and two are on Netflix, and season three will join them soon. WATCH THEM!

Silent Hill 1 and 2.

Silent Hill was originally a video game that they made into a movie. One of the best ideas a person could have. The first movie is incredible. It's story line is the trippiest one I have ever seen. The way the film is acted out made me fall in love with it. The town, Silent Hill, was considered damned because of the people inhabiting it, and underneath the dirt it is on fire and deemed unsafe. If I really wanted to tell you the whole story line... I could go on for days.
The second Silent Hill... TERRIBLE. Don't waste your time on this. I only watched 30 minutes of it and I was confused and bored.
Just watch Silent Hill 1. If you are into thrillers and horror movies, you will love this movie I promise.

Superstar.

Super Star looks like a typical "high school" movie, but it is so much more than that. This movie is about a... mentally ill (the nicest way I could put it) girl, named Mary Katherine Gallagher, in a catholic school that wants to be a super star. She wants to act, dance, and sing. The thing is... she is very strange, deranged, and honestly quite repugnant. She is so strange that she was put in Special Education. In that class she meets a lot of interesting people; one in peticular is a mute, bad-boy type. He rides a motorcycle and wears a leather jacket. He is in love with her, but she is oblivious to his obvious hints. She instead is in love with Will Farrell's character, Sky Corrigan, who is a preppy, popular, "handsome" jock that runs the school. He has a nasty, super annoying cheerleader for a girlfriend that is the "typical mean girl." This movie is about her way to stardom... and how incredibly strange she is.

Insidious.

This is one of my least favorite horror movies. I was very excited to watch it because the director of the movie also directed the Saw Series and Paranormal Activity Series. I had high hopes and was very let down. The whole entire script was wrong from the very beginning. It started off like every other "Ghost" movie with a nice mother, father, and two sons moving into an old, creepy, and extremely dusty house. Stuff starts disappearing, falling on accident, and the mother hears voices. One day the little boy is up in the attic. He climbs on a rickety old ladder to turn on the light. He ends up "falling" (being pushed by a ghost) and lands in a coma the next day. The parents can't explain it, the doctors can't explain it. Three months later he is still in a coma. Then the mother starts seeing apparitions and feeling them touch her. She convinces her husband to move to a different house with both of the boys.
This doesn't help the situation, she sees more apparitions and her husband doesn't believe her. One day the grandmother comes to visit. She says that she has been seeing something evil in the comatose childs' room. They get so paranoid that they bring in a Medium and her "ghost hunters." These people... Are idiots. They try to "communicate" with the apparitions by putting a gas mask, which has a tube attached to headphones of one of her minions, over the mediums face and use a wuiji board. The multiple ghosts haunting their house an their son attack them and throw things and people fly all over the room. It's complete bullshit.
After that happens the medium tells them that their son is astro-planing in his dreams and is trapped in another realm by a demon. The only person that can save him is the father. He gets to the place and it is cheap sets and weird graphics that don't make sense. He tries to save his by facing off with the, cheaply done makeup, two horned, hooved and climbs on walls, demon. He wins his son soul back but loses his and kills the medium and the movie ends.

It is terribly done and one of my least favorite movies. Do everyone a favor, and don't watch this movie.

Paranormal Activity Vs. Paranormal Entity.

I'm sure most of you have heard of the Paranormal Activity Series, but have you heard of Paranormal Entity? Doubtful. They are very similar but Paranormal Entity is much more convincing than any of the Paranormal Activity's.
Paranormal Activity is an over rated "home video" of paranormal possession. In all cases, the children are taken and people are killed by the "ghost."
Paranormal Entity is a much more realistic "home video" of a family who is being attacked by a demon.  The father died in a car accident, and since then the mother has been trying to contact him on the other side.  While she was trying to do that, she invited something else, something evil, in. A therapist they visit suggests that they film everything that happens in the house. After the mother invites it into their house it then became attached to her daughter. The poor girl gets haunted, tortured, thrown, beaten, possibly raped and everything else in between.
Disclaimer: These movie is not for the faint of heart and both can easily scare (especially Paranormal Entity).

The Human Centipede 1 and 2

The first thing I have to say, I watched this movie out of pure CURIOSITY. Who in their right mind would actually think up these movies?? Seriously! First off, we are dealing with two separate movies. The Human Centipede 1 is... one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen! A mad scientist kidnaps and sews three people together from anus to mouth to make the first ever Human Centipede. It is disgusting. It is weird. And it is so strange that I felt compelled to watch the whole entire thing.
Human Centipede 2 makes Human Centipede 1 look like a walk in the park. It is far more brutal and grotesque than the first one by a mile. This mentally ill, obese, midget becomes obsessed with Human Centipede and decides to recreate that monster. Only Bigger. He kidnaps 12 people, one of them being a severely pregnant woman, the star from the last film of Human Centipede, and some random strangers.
I swear to you that this movie is by far the most mind altering and damaging movies I have seen. So if you feel like being corrupted, feel free to watch this movie.
Oh and p.s. they are making a 3rd Human Centipede.

Moulin Rouge

This is one of my favorite love stories. Yes, it is sappy, and yes it is a musical, but it is a very unique and passionate movie. This movie is very fast paced in the beginning and then slows down as it goes on. A penniless writer becomes involved with a play at the Moulin Rouge. All of the actors at the Moulin Rouge are prostitutes. The best prostitute is beautiful and has an amazing voice. She is supposed to make this Duke fall in love with her so she can be a full time actor and also to fund the play. Except she starts falling for the writer, even though he is broke. As the Duke tries to make her fall in love with him, the more she falls in love with the writer. She starts to get sick, like coughing up blood and fainting spells. It becomes a very heartfelt tragedy. I HIGHLY recommend this movie for a romantic movie night with your significant other. ;)

What do all of these movies have in common?

They were all directed by, one of my favorite directors, Tim Burton. He has such a unique perspective on life. Almost all of his movies have this dark, 50's/Victorian era type of feel. His movies are satirical and expose the ignorance of every day people. In Edward Scissorhands the people neighbors in the movie at first love him, because he is so mysterious. As soon as one little thing goes wrong they want to throw him out, mainly because he is different. He is so original. His movies are very philosophical. Nightmare Before Christmas basically says that sometimes you have to try something new to realize how much you love what you have already done.
WATCH TIM BURTON!

Terrible Movie Time

Mean Girls 2

Why? WHYYYYYY??? Who was the idiot that thought it was a good idea to try to top the movie of all movies? Almost everyone and their mom has watched Mean Girls. People today still quote it regularly. "On wednesdays we wear pink." It is the ultimate teen movie. When I was looking for a movie on netflix, I saw the title Mean Girls 2. I thought, "Oh my god! It's going to be as awesome as the first Mean Girls!" Sadly it was not. It was like every other stupid disney-teeny-bopper-feel-good movie that has ever been made. A rich girl gets bullied by another rich girl. The bullied girls father pays a "bad ass" (she's not really, but they try to make her look like that) over $20,000 to be friends with his daughter. Over time she realizes that she enjoys the rich girls company and shouldn't have taken her fathers money. They take over the school and the "bad ass" becomes the bullier. The rich girl doesn't like that, and at the same time finds out about the money. They get into a fight, shit goes down, and then they make up again. If you see this movie, scroll past it. That way you won't have to waste two hours of your life on the dumbest movie ever made.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil, Officially my favorite movie.

If you are looking for a really original movie, look no more because you  have found the perfect one.I'm not sure what genre this movie would be in. It could easily be horror, or comedy, or even a love story. The pure genius of it still blows my mind. It's about these two hillbillies that are going on vacation at a rickety cabin in the secluded woods. They meet up with these college kids. The college kids are stereotypical. We have the stupid blonde, the middle eastern cutie, the athletic black guy, the pretty boy prep, the funny stoner, and the intellectual bookworm that is gorgeous. They are completely afraid of the hillbillies. When the college kids get to their camp ground, in the same secluded woods as the hillbillies, they decide to go skinny dipping. The intellectual bookworm that is gorgeous decides to jump off of a rock far from her friends. It just so happens that the too hillbillies are night fishing in the area and see her jump. After 30 seconds she still doesn't come up. One hillbilly, dale, jumps in and saves her. The college kids see this and think that he is trying to kidnap her. They try to "rescue" her after they think the hillbillies are torturing her. They are ridiculously stupid and basically kill themselves. My mom always tells me that there are three sides to every story. In this case the hillbillies are trying to kidnap the bookworm from the college kids point of view, the college kids are trying to commit mass suicide and want to kill the bookworm from the hillbillies view, and what actually happened.
It is all about the eye of the beholder.

Warm Bodies worth seeing?

Warm Bodies is a fascinating film. Originally it first started as a novel, which I haven’t read, but I heard it is amazing. When I watched the trailer, before it was in theaters, I was ecstatic! Zombies, adventure, romance, comedy, what more could you want in a movie? I have some pretty high expectations when it comes to movies, this one blew mine to another planet. The gore was perfect. I watched a zombie tear off dead flesh from his face and eat it. The graphics for the really dead “Boney’s” were not the best, but they still got the point across that they are vicious, man killing skeletons.
The thriller kept me on my toes at all times. The battle between the Boneys and the Zombies and the Humans was epic to say the least.
The romance was impeccable. The two actors made the audience feel like they had a true connection. I also loved how the author of the book named the characters Julie and R. Its almost a direct link to Romeo and Juliet. They aren’t supposed to be together. R is dead. Julie is alive. At one point in the movie Julie walks out on her balcony and R calls to her. She tells him that he should not be here. Her father will find them. It was a beautiful reference.
The comedy was hilarious. They spit out one-liners left and right. “My friend “M” says the irony of being a zombie is that everything is funny, but you can’t smile, because your lips have rotted off.”
If you have time in your busy schedule, I HIGHLY recommend this movie.

About Me

Hey, I’m a 17-year-old Colorado kid named Madi. I'm a total movie fanatic. This blog is all about movies. Sometimes I will rant about how terrible they are, and other times I will praise the director, producer, whatever for their genius ideas. I look at movies in a unique perspective. Taking Philosophy and Ethics in high school has really added depth and meaning to my critic. Plus the countless varieties from low budget movies like Dorian Gray to Avatar, one of the highest budget movies in the world, give me a broad list to talk about. I’ll post movies that you have never heard of guaranteed. Follow me!
